The simplest way to calculate Australian GST.
gstcalculators.net.au is an Australian-built suite of free GST calculators and tax tools created to help sole traders, freelancers, small business owners, and contractors handle GST without the headache.
Why this site exists
Australia’s GST is conceptually simple — it’s 10% on most goods and services. In practice, calculating it correctly across different scenarios (adding GST to a quote, removing it from a total, working out GST for a BAS, applying it to rideshare or short-stay income) gets confusing fast.
We built this site because every other GST calculator we tested either got the math right but didn’t explain anything, bombarded users with ads before showing the result, required signups or paywalls, or was built for accountants rather than for the people actually paying GST every day. Our calculators do the math instantly, show the formula plainly, and never charge you anything.
What we do — and what we don’t
We do:
- Provide free calculators that work fast on any device
- Aggregate and explain ATO rules in plain English
- Cite the Australian Taxation Office (ato.gov.au) as the source for every rule we reference
- Update content when ATO rules change
- Maintain calculators that match current GST rates and thresholds
We don’t:
- Provide personalised tax advice
- Replace a registered BAS agent or tax accountant
- Make recommendations specific to your business situation
- Handle your BAS lodgement, registration, or compliance
If you have a specific tax question about your situation, please consult a registered BAS agent (search the Tax Practitioners Board register at tpb.gov.au) or tax accountant. Our calculators are designed for general use and education, not for tax advice.
Who runs this site
gstcalculators.net.au is built and maintained by Bobby, an Australian SEO professional with formal tertiary training in business and finance:
- Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise (NZ Level 8, finance specialisation) — Southern Institute of Technology (SIT), New Zealand. Coursework included financial accounting, management accounting, and corporate finance.
- Diploma in Business (NZ Level 6, accounting subjects) — Southern Institute of Technology (SIT), New Zealand.
While we are not a registered BAS agent or certified Australian tax accountant, this academic background — combined with disciplined research practice — is what powers the accuracy of our calculators and content. Every formula on this site is verified against published ATO rules, and every guide is cross-referenced with the ATO’s own documentation.
Editorial standards
Every guide on this site follows these rules:
- ATO-first sourcing. Every rule we reference is linked to the official ATO source.
- Last-updated dating. Each guide shows when it was last reviewed and updated.
- Plain-English explanations. We avoid accountant jargon unless we define it first.
- Disclaimers where appropriate. Tax decisions depend on your specific situation — we make that clear.
- No misleading claims. We never present ourselves as tax advisors.
